It’s a question that Tiger Woods asks himself every morning. It’s also the question facing the locals of Bonnieux and Serignan (just north of Orange). The bulldozers are poised to create new 18 hole courses in both these locations, and it’s not stretching the imagination to envisage some residents blocking their progress by flinging themselves in front of the diggers.
The problem? Provence is an agricultural area, a land of outstanding beauty, which has attracted tourists through its peace and tranquillity. For some the thought of middle aged men and women in tight shorts thwacking their way through the garrigue is just too terrible to countenance. At Serignan there will also be an associated residential development, and ecologists argue that Provence is making the same mistakes as Spain - blotting the landscape with tourist housing.
At least the development at Bonnieux promises something a little different. Championed by Pierre Cardin the 18 holes will be decorated with artistic sculptures. One can only imagine what would happen if Tiger - fresh from sex therapy - encountered a voluptuous Venus in the bushes.

I'm so disappointed that Provence is selling out to golf courses! People can play golf at home. Golf courses destroy valuable resources: land, scenery and water.
